For over 20 years the Finnish 4H Federation has been active in Tanzania and Namibia. With the co-operation, the locals have been able to help start their own 4H activity.

In Tanzania there are over 30 000 members in the 4H! That is a huge number. Thousands of young people have started their own business within the 4H. For example the 4H members have made agricultural projects and started a hostel. The 4H is growing also in Namibia, where young people are keen to learn entrepreneurial skills. Environmental aspects play a huge role in both countries.

The Finnish 4H Federation and the Tanzanian 4H organised a seminar called Take a Lead in February 2009. Over 40 4H-organisers and Young Farmer's leaders from Africa, Europe and USA participated.

In the seminar the participants created a communication channel called 4H African Network. The network works through email. It is open for anyone interested in the African 4H work. You can join by sending an email to african4h(at)4h.fi

Contact Päivi Haapasalo (paivi.haapasalo(at)4h.fi) at the Finnish 4H Federation if you want to learn more about the projects.
